Sunday is
Mother's Day!
While I certainly believe that Mother's deserve special treatment, I'm fairly certain the onus of this "holiday" was to sell cards, flowers, and candy. I grew up in West Virginia, the state that birthed Mother's Day--Grafton, WV to be precise (even their website proudly states such). When you enter Grafton, from any angle, you see a sign proclaiming it as "The Birthplace of Mother's Day". It even houses a "Mother's Day Shrine" with a detailed history of Mother's Day. Happy Mother's Day, Mom--I love you!
Mother-in-law killed
A newlywed farmer and his wife were visited by her mother, who immediately demanded an inspection of the place. The farmer had genuinely tried to be friendly to his new mother-in-law, hoping that it could be a friendly, non-antagonistic relationship. All to no avail though, as she kept nagging them at every opportunity, demanding changes, offering unwanted advice, and generally making life unbearable to the farmer and his new bride. While they were walking through the barn, during the forced inspection, the farmer's mule suddenly reared up and kicked the mother-in-law in the head, killing her instantly. It was a shock to all no matter their feelings toward her demanding ways. At the funeral service a few days later, the farmer stood near the casket and greeted folks as they walked by. The pastor noticed that whenever a woman would whisper something to the farmer, he would nod his head yes and say something. Whenever a man walked by and whispered to the farmer, however, he would shake his head no, and mumble a reply. Very curious as to this bizarre behavior, the pastor later asked the farmer what that was all about. The farmer replied, "The women would say, 'What a terrible tragedy' and I would nod my head and say, 'Yes, it was.' The men would then ask, 'Can I borrow that mule?' and I would shake my head and say, 'Can't. It's all booked up for a year.'"

him with comfort and anticipates his wants, but when she resolutely holds him to the highest standards and is content with nothing less than his best. ~ Hamilton Wright Mabie Sweater, n.: garment worn by child when

In honor of my beautiful, loving, and VERY understanding wife--the mother of my wonderful children, here is this week's "Wisdom From The Word." She feels that all good illustrations should take the form of an acrostic. So...
This by no means is related to my mom, or my mother-in-law. But there are some in my life how could have quoted this strange little "cartoon" from their own life--even if they would never admit it. It was pointed out to me that I skipped a promised section on www.MyCorps.org. So, here it is-- The Salvation Army has partnered with www.MyChurch.org to create an online church community for Salvationists to virtually socialize and gather information about Salvation Army happenings. Its 'sister' site www.MySalvationArmy.org actually takes you to the same site, but is aimed at marketing the site and its features to non-salvationists who have a passion for the mission of The Salvation Army (like Advisory Board members, vendors, employees, etc.) Like most social networking sites (facebook, myspace, etc.) you are able to join affinity groups within the greater Salvation Army "church". For example each Salvation Army Corps (church) would be able to have their own group. So I could belong to The Salvation Army church and the Weirton Corps church. In addition, there are options for membership groups like band, songsters, youth, officer's (preacher's) kids--the list is virtually (pun intended) limitless. Once you join--joining is free and easy--you can personalize your page just about as much as you would like. You can create a blog, post photos, keep up with new and old friends. I've opted not to personalize my page too much, but some of my friends have gone all out. Feel free to check out my site if you so wish: www.mychurch.org/clmcgown The real difference between this site and others is its purpose--to promote the community of Christians and create (and promote) and online community of Churches (who follow the Nicene Creed). If you are a Salvationist I strongly encourage you to go to www.MyCorps.org and join and get involved. If you are a member of another church, I urge you to start your own on-line community on MyChurch. In either case, once you do, make sure you let me know you did it, I will want to add you to my "friends" list. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
