Sometimes I have something in
my head, right now it is the "Hammer & Nail" image and
analogy. I'm sure the self-appointed psychologists
of the world would have a field day with this temporary
fixation--especially the Freudian group--but I really don't think it is
anything deeper than a bad country song.
That said, maybe now that I've put it out to the world, my mind will let it rest....nope, not yet....still there....come on.....some times your the hammer....
With people concerned about
their finances, more and more folks
are turning to gardening. That reminded me of this old joke-- A life-long city man, Fred decided to leave the rat-race, move to the country and become a chicken farmer, so he found a nice chicken farm and bought it. Turned out that his next door neighbour, a kind, generous man named Bob, was also a chicken farmer. Bob came for a visit one day and said, "Chicken farming isn't easy. Tell you what. To help you get started, I'll give you 100 chickens." Fred was thrilled. Two weeks later the Bob stopped by to see how things were going, and Fred said, "Not too good. All 100 chickens died." Bob said, "Oh, I can't believe that. I've never had any trouble with my chickens. I'll give you 100 more." Another two weeks went by, and Bob stops in again. Fred told him, "You're not going to believe this, but the second 100 chickens died too." Astounded, Bob asked, "What went wrong? What did you do to them?" Well, Fred said, "I'm not sure whether I'm planting them too deep or not far apart enough." It's been a while, so,
HERE's a bonus for ya!
SET YOUR MIND ON THINGS ABOVE,
NOT ON THINGS ON THE EARTH. ( COLOSSIANS 3:2 *NKJV ) It is very easy for us to get caught up in this materialistic World of ours. Before we even know it we start desiring a fancy new car, or a new home, or some other material possession that soon dominates our hearts and minds. Now these things can become the most important things in our lives, and can not help replacing God as Number One in our hearts! FOR WHERE YOUR TREASURE IS, THERE YOUR HEART WILL BE ALSO. ( LUKE 12:34 ) After all, THOSE WHO LIVE ACCORDING TO THE FLESH SET THEIR MINDS ON THE THINGS OF THE FLESH, BUT THOSE WHO LIVE ACCORDING TO THE SPIRIT, THE THINGS OF THE SPIRIT. FOR TO BE CARNALLY MINDED IS DEATH, BUT TO BE SPIRITUALLY MINDED IS LIFE AND PEACE! ( ROMANS 8:5-7 ) So keep your mind focused on Our Savior Jesus Christ so: THAT CHRIST MAY DWELL IN YOUR HEARTS THROUGH FAITH. ( EPHESIANS 3:17 ) For after all we are not human beings having a Spiritual experience, but Spiritual beings having a human experience! Now, TO HIM WHO IS ABLE TO DO EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE ALL THAT WE ASK OR THINK, ACCORDING TO THE POWER THAT WORKS IN US, TO HIM BE GLORY IN THE CHURCH BY CHRIST JESUS TO ALL GENERATIONS, FOREVER AND EVER. AMEN. ( EPHESIANS 3:20-21 ) Not enought? Try James 5: 1-3 Adapted from "God's Minute"
Calling all Readers -- I was watching my favorite source of news and entertainment -- The Colbert Report-- when I saw an interview with the, Rev. N.T. Wright (yes, the Right Reverend Wright--OK, he's actually a Bishop), the author of Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church I was interested in the book and think the ideas he discussed in the very brief interview would make for an interesting read, though be it a bit controversial. Never one to shy away from the controversial, I am interested. However, my "to be read" pile is very high. I am a bit leery of a book I've never heard of (before or since this interview) by an author I've never heard of. Now I'm not saying I won't read it, because in all likelihood I will; however, it will be awhile. That is, unless you fine readers tell me it is worth my time. Even if you don't agree with it, I'm just interested in the quality of the information and his style of writing. So, if you are willing please do a book review for me. If you want, I'll be happy to post your comments in a link on future FF issues. Let me know, and I'll let the masses know.
Thanks to my brilliant and awesomely cool cousin Jon (okay, he wrote this part), I'd like to point you to a web-head's dream! This Internet Library houses historical collections that are houses in digital format. From poetry and written text, to video games, audio recordings and online streaming movies all for free.
