Proposed Point (and click)

Tomorrow we will be setting sail for the Caribbian.   My wife and I are more than a little excited about it.   Frankly, at this point, the real thing will have a hard time living up the the world we've created in our minds.

However, to give you a glimpse into our view of this world, I have created a blog for the trip:  McGown's First Cruise.   I hope make postings at leave every other day, pictures and all.

If it is daylight as you read this, you can also click HERE to get a live view from the bridge of our ship, the Grand Princess.   Of course, you can do this when it is dark also, but the view is just a tad boring.

Ship Fun

As I set sail for my first cruise, I wanted to make sure I had some great questions to ask the cruise director:

   1. Which elevator do I take to get to the front of the ship?
   2. Does the ship generate its own electricity?
   3. Why do the inside staterooms not have windows?
   4. What do they do with the ice carvings after they melt?
   5. Is this island completely surrounded by water?
   6. The photos in the photo gallery do not have stateroom numbers on them,
so how do we know which ones are ours?
   7. Has this ship ever sunk?
   8. Is it fresh water or salt water in the toilet?
   9. Does the crew sleep onboard?
  10. What time is the Midnight Buffet?
  11. Do the movies on the TV come via satellite or cable?
  12. Do these stairs go up, or down?
  13. What is the elevation of the ship?
  14. On the last night of the cruise, should we put our suitcases out in the hall
before or after we go to sleep?
  15. What religion are all those people who are wearing a patch behind their ear?

"The more I want to get something done, the less I call it work."
Richard Bach

Key Passage:
"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded." - James 4:8 NASB

Jesus said:  "Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. And because they love me, my Father will love them. And I will love them and reveal myself to each of them." John 14:21 NLT

I've always found great comfort in that passage.   But in James 4:8, I find something that gives me even greater joy and hope.   The promise that while God's love is unconditional, I am still able to grow in His favor--drawing near to Him.   I couple this with Paul's race analogy (Philippians 3:12-14) and I come up with a winning (pun intended) combination.

When we stay on a path of Christ discovery ('press[ing] on toward the goal'), we will (sooner or later) lovingly obey God's Commandments as characterized in Psalms 1:2. In that same passage you may (as I am prone to do) extrapolate the joy in the study of His Word.

It is through these efforts and the promises in James and Philippians that we begin to experience a more intimate knowledge of our Heavenly Father.

We are never alone with the unfailing promise of God to "draw near" to us as we "draw near" to Him.   And that is a comfort to me, and to a self-isolated, hurting world.

As I departed for the points in the southern part of the northern hemisphere, I was consistently given two pieces of advice: 1) Have Fun, and 2) Wear Sunscreen.    As a wink and a nod to this second piece of advice (the first is a given), here is a link to a lip sync of one of my all time favorite songs....

I always love when I get a link to a new and different website.   But, I have to admit I like it much more when I stumble upon one on my own.   Maybe it is the male need to hunt.

I found an interesting one:  "Beyond...The Blackstump"

This site vividly proves that the internet for for EVERYONE.   There are links to see Ugly Mailboxes, Cow Abductions, and my favorite (for now) BWARS (you've got to read their mission).   And these are just from the "older" odd sites, there are over 200 "new sites."

This is a site I've marked in my favorites and plan to visit often.   This sites is bound to offer me hours (if not days and months) of great entertainment.
