I could have spent my whole life without the need to spell pneumonia. But, alas the word, its funky spelling, and its symptoms have entered my life screaming. The screaming of a 17 month old boy. Last Friday, while you laughed (I hope) at the Friday Funnies, and/or pointed out the misquote in the Media Moment; my loving wife took Cade for a Chest X-ray after the Doctor's diagnosis of pneumonia--I have a sneaky suspicion that Angela cried just as much as Cade during the ordeal. So, this week has been spent in shifts with the little one, who is OH SO CLINGY. I can safe with a high degree of confidence that Clingy so from 'cute' to 'most annoying' very quickly. We have, however, gotten very creative with what we can do while holding a fussy, yet squirmy, little boy. To help, the sanitized ball pit (and all 400 balls) is now in the 'toy room' off the living room and kitchen. It hasn't been as bad as we had feared, and has kept da' boys occupied for a few moments. Moments, no matter how fleeting, which are celebrated. We have survived the week, and the kids have survived the week. No one wants to do it again, but we survived--and better for the experience. OK, I'm not really sure how we are better, but sure sounds good, right? In the not-to-distant future, we have already started plans for Easter (in Weirton) and their new Corps building (I hope). And Cam's 4th birthday celebration. Angela assures me that this is the birthday when we have to start inviting his friends from 'school'--even though we've not received a single invitation to another child's party. However, I will bow to her wisdom, and we can invite (and pay for) whomever will make the day right--both for Cam and 'politically'.

wisdom is everywhere,

Every once in a while you come across a passage of scripture again...for the first time. You know, you've read it before...several times...but this time it was carrying a sledge hammer. You feel the impact of that hammer right about the time you reach the period at the end of the sentence. Well, my head is hurting....BAD. I can't explain it, I can't tell you why, all I can do is tell you about it and maybe share the weight (and force) of its hammer. During my daily reading I came to John 16:33. I was doing fine until the second half of that passage. I am currently reading the New American Standard Bible, and it puts the second half (b) like this: "In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world." WHACK!
"...I have overcome the world." Not, I will overcome the world. Not, I am overcoming the world. It is in the past tense. The Jesus who was "truly and properly man" had overcome the world...already. As I often do, I cruised quickly over to www.niv.org, and looked up the passage in all the different translations offered. Guess what. They were all in the past tense. Also, as I often do; I found the Amplified version of the passage particularly powerful and insightful. It put it this way: "In the world you have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer [take courage; be confident, certain, undaunted]! For I have overcome the world. [I have deprived it of power to harm you and have conquered it for you.]" KA-WHACK!
I love it...it hurt, but I love it. No less than a hundred times, I've said: "I've read the end of the book, I know who wins." But that doesn't work for me anymore. I can now say: "I didn't join the winning team, I joined the victors." Not winning, but won. My Father has already "conquered it for" me. And I cry Abba, Father. Like I said when I started this little blurb, I have no idea why. I can't explain why it is such a revelation or why the revelation is so impactful, but it is. While I would never presume that I could teach you anything; I only hope to share some of my joyful pain. After all, 'to the victor goes the spoils.'
I'm not going to say anything about this, because.... well, I just want you to see for yourself: CLICK HERE ! |
