My mother frequently said: "Nothing goes faster than money!' Until recently I have always agreed and found the statement rather profound. However, of late, I find myself at odds with this statement. Because I have found something that seems to go much faster than money--TIME. It is one of the few things we can't control --even with the best efforts of a million dollar "Time Management" industry. We can't control when a day starts or ends, much less a year or the concept at all. One day (insert your own time joke here) I hope to make a special effort to stop trying to do the impossible, and just let time be...and, as they say, live in the moment. But until then, my life demands humor and inspiration, maybe you do also. So, here's some I'm sharing....
I was helping a couple recent high-school graduates put together their resumes as they move into the work-force full-time. As I did so, I was reminded of this list...I thought I would share it with you today.... Business Facts
All you ever needed to know about work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A meeting is an event at which the minutes are kept and hours are lost. If you tell your boss you were late for work because you had a flat tire, the very next morning you will have a flat tire. The probability of meeting someone you know increases when you are with someone you don't want to be seen with. When you try to prove to someone that something won't work, it will. As soon as you sit down to a cup of hot coffee, your boss will ask you to do something which will last until the coffee is cold. Anything is possible if you don't know what you're talking about. Logic is a systematic method of coming to the wrong conclusion with confidence. Technology is dominated by those who manage what they do not understand. The opulence of the front office decor varies inversely with the fundamental solvency of the firm. The attention span of a computer is only as long as its power cord. An expert is one who knows more and more about less and less until he knows absolutely everything about nothing. Nothing ever gets built on schedule or within budget. The first myth of leadership is that it exists. A failure will not appear until a unit has passed final inspection. To err is human, to blame somebody else shows good management skills.
"The greatness of a man's power is the measure of his surrender." - William Booth, Founder of The Salvation Army
The late SM Lockridge was famous before this message, but this is probably what he is best known for. There are a number of rumors around it, the most common is that it was unplanned and unrehearsed--totally extemporaneous. Whether delivered with great fore-thought or not, it is Spirit Filled and meaningful. I am embarrassed to say that my introduction to this (goose-bump giving) video came late in my life (thanks Todd M.). I have, however, bookmarked it and listen to (and watch) it no less than once every week. This message in various forms and lengths appears on YouTube a number of times. However, I have opted to provide you with the source I recommend due to quality. Of course, should you choose to use it you will want to know where to purchase the DVD. Blessings!
![]() Because he is a skilled writer not a scientist or mathematician, Mr. Bryson does a wonderful job explaining a lot of previously mysterious ideas. Once you read it, e-mail me and let me know what you think of it. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. Trust me, it isn't as boring as the title (or my description) makes it sound.
As is so often the case, I stumbled
upon this week's PP(&C). I was on a site
the main object of which was a colored state-by-state
map. As I was examining the map I noticed a small
tag in the lower corner that said something like: "Create your own
personalized map at www.World66.com." When I
followed the link I found a miraculous world of travel information
created by and for travelers. It has a number of resources for both the sometimes travelers and we road-warriors. More importantly, it gives you and I the opportunity to create, add, challenge information about travel. Check it out... | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
